Industry leading ventilation hygiene and system surveying company, Ventilation Surveys & Services Ltd (VSS), has completed four full kitchen ventilation for a local education authority on time and within budget in preparation for the government’s free primary school dinners scheme. The projects were directly managed by VSS, from initial site survey through to handover to the end user.
VSS managed the installation of new extraction canopies and supply systems for all of the kitchens, along with the system commissioning and full kitchen deep cleans in time for the new school term, starting this week. All kitchen canopies were designed, manufactured and installed to comply with B&ES DW172 for Kitchen Ventilation Systems standards.
The timing coincides with the launch of a government initiative to provide free school meals to all under-7s, which could save parents about £400 a year per child. The scheme aims to raise academic standards by making midday meals more nutritious.
As school kitchens can accumulate large quantities of grease, regular cleaning is absolutely essential, as these highly flammable greasy deposits can pose a significant fire hazard. The Fire Safety Order (2005) puts the legal responsibility with the Facilities Managers to ensure that kitchen grease extract systems in all commercial kitchens are inspected as required by the building’s insurance policy, and comply at all times with Fire Safety and Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations.
VSS has extensive experience in ensuring that clients conform with the Fire Regulatory Reform Order and all other relevant legislation and guidance, reducing the customers’ exposure to the risk of fire, and improving the performance and lifespan of extraction systems. As a matter of course, clients will receive a comprehensive report following a system clean with certification, photos, recommendations and findings.
